The state Department of Environmental Protection says it will begin next week testing well water in a western Palm Beach County community where residents have complained about an unusually high number of brain cancer cases.
U.S. Senator Bill Nelson met with residents earlier this month to discuss concerns with about 20 families from The Acreage area. He said he has asked the Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to coordinate with the state to investigate.
DEP officials told residents Thursday they would begin tests next week. The state Health Department also is looking into whether incidences of the disease are greater than they should be and if the agency needs to launch a wider investigation.
