WHEELING, W.Va. – Vandals have torched 32 golf carts at the Wheeling Country Club, and the pro shop manager says they also tore up the greens before fleeing.
Golf professional Thomas Lindh says a motorist spotted flames at the course around 4:30 a.m. Friday and called the fire department.
Crews arrived to find the carts, linked by a cable, in ruins.
Lindh says he's been in the business for 20 years and has never seen anything like it. He says there's nothing left of the carts, which are worth at least $100,000.
Lindh says a new cart costs $4,000 to $6,000, but the club's carts were about three years old.
The greens sustained minor damage, as did some furniture by the pool.
Lindh says the club only has 10 carts left.
