An American and his Japanese colleague have been found dead on Japan's Mt. Fuji.

Police say the two froze to death in cold and wet weather on their way down from the summit. They were last seen by other climbers as they began their descent from the 12,000-foot peak.

A police official says the steep mountain is tougher than people might think, especially in bad weather. In his words, "Don't underestimate Mt. Fuji."

The deaths come a week after 10 senior citizen climbers also died of exposure in Japan's northern mountains.
