ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A player in a softball rec game in New York state has been given a two- to four-year prison sentence for dealing a deadly blow to the back of the head of an opponent.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sean Sanders drew the maximum penalty for criminally negligent homicide in the death last summer of Daniel Andrews Jr. at the end of a recreational league game in the Rochester suburb of Parma.
Andrews, a 36-year-old father of three, was knocked unconscious and died the next day of brain injuries.
Sanders was convicted in April after waiving his right to a jury trial.
At the time of the attack, Sanders was on parole after serving a four-year sentence for a conviction on a charge that he beat a man with a golf club.
