CALGARY, Canada – A Canadian woman has died after fighting a form of flesh-eating disease for more than a year, cnews.canoe.ca reported Monday.
Calgary native Jennifer Cormier McFarlane died June 21 after spending 15 months in an Edmonton Hospital.
McFarlane got sick last year with what she thought was the flu, but her condition deteriorated and she developed a form of flesh-eating bacteria.
She lost her left leg after contracting to the disease, and friends and family raised money to help buy her a prosthetic leg last year.
McFarlane's mother Joanne Anderson said her daughter was a woman who could lift everyone's spirits.
"She ... had an amazing sense of humor," she said.
A memorial will be held Aug. 1.
