Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, aka “MCA” has announced that he is suffering from cancer.

In a statement via YouTube and posted on the band’s Web site, Yauch said he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left parotid, or salivary, gland.

“Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area,” a representative from the band’s label EMI said in an announcement Monday. “As such, [it] is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment.”

The cancer will not affect Yauch’s vocal chords, but the band was forced to cancel concert tour dates so he can undergo surgery and recover. The band will also delay the release of their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1.

“I apologize to everybody for anyone who’s made plans or was psyched to come to these shows that are coming up and I just apologize fir anyone who’s put themselves out in terms of their schedules or whatever and we’ll be back doing this soon …,” Yauch said in the video statement.

"‘Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys,” the statement from EMI says. “The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery."
