Bond has been denied for a South Carolina man charged with beating his 7-year-old son to death with a mop handle.

Multiple media outlets report that Circuit Judge denied bond for James Dickerson during a hearing Wednesday.

Dickerson was charged with homicide by child abuse last year after authorities said he beat his son dozens of times with a mop handle.

Authorities say Jeremy Dickerson had been dead for several hours before his father called paramedics to his Easley home last November. Investigators said the boy's body was covered with bruises.

Deputies say Dickerson has also been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child after hitting his 5-year-old son with the same handle. That boy is in protective custody.
