An elderly man died aboard a British cruise ship where 150 passengers and crew are sick from a suspected norovirus outbreak, a spokesman for the ship reported Tuesday.
The man, from England, suffered a heart attack and had serious underlying health problems, the country's National Health Services in Highland said.
He was on the Marco Polo ship, operated by Transocean Tours. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the man's death.
Transocean Tours of Bremen said its medical team on the ship is also dealing with an unconfirmed virus that causes gastrointestinal problems including nausea and vomiting.
A cruise ship spokesman said the heart attack was not related to the stomach virus outbreak.
"In an unrelated incident ... a 74-year-old male passenger, with chronic heart and breathing problems, suffered a fatal heart attack on board ship and paramedics were unable to resuscitate him," he said.
There are 769 passengers and 340 crew on the cruise and those not showing symptoms were allowed to go ashore to sightsee Monday.
The Marco Polo set off from Tilbury on a cruise around Britain on Saturday and is scheduled to sail from Invergordon Tuesday to continue the voyage.
