A veteran Los Angeles police detective has pleaded not guilty to murder for the 1986 killing of her ex-boyfriend's wife.

After her arraignment Monday, Stephanie Lazarus, 49, was returned to jail without bail pending a July 21 hearing.

Lazarus allegedly killed Sherri Rasmussen on Feb. 24, 1986. Police say the detective, who has been with the department for 25 years, was connected to the crime recently through DNA evidence of saliva from bite marks on the victim.
