A 31-year-old man who went to the hospital complaining of a headache was told to take a pain reliever and sent home.

But after two more days of excruciating pain, Paul Curtis, of Carlingford, Australia, went back to the hospital to find he had a chip out of his spine and he could have severed his spinal cord, the Australian Associated Press reported.

The hospital staff told Curtis they couldn’t give him an X-ray when he first arrived at the hospital because the radiology unit was closed for the evening.

Curtis said he isn’t angry, but would like more government funding so his situation doesn’t happen to anyone else.
