Coast Guard Searches for Calif. Man Believed to Have Gone Overboard From Ferry

The Coast Guard is continuing its search for a 58-year-old man believed to have gone overboard from a ferry boat.

Coast Guard spokesman Anthony Turner said early Saturday crews had been out all night looking for Richard Kemp, of Mission Viejo, in the waters between Dana Point and Catalina Island.

He was thought to have boarded the Catalina Express in Dana Point just before 8:00 a.m. Friday, bound for Avalon Harbor.

When the ferry arrived in Avalon there was no record of Kemp disembarking and his luggage remained unclaimed.

Turner says a helicopter may join the search later but the weather is currently too foggy.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department notified the Coast Guard and a search of the area was initiated.
