The father of a Providence teenager who collapsed and died while playing basketball says he was told by doctors that his son had a heart attack.
Eighteen-year-old Marquiss Johnson collapsed Tuesday evening while playing basketball at the Wanskuck Boys & Girls Club and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Johnson's father, Randy Lesley, tells The Providence Journal that his son did not have a history of heart problems and the death has left him in "disbelief."
Lesley says his son was a lovable, honest and respectful teen. Friends say Johnson graduated from high school last year and was trying hard to find a job while he considered either college or trade school.
Johnson's mother died when he was just 2.
