SPRINGDALE, Ark. – A coroner in Arkansas says he believes the deaths of two young siblings found in the trunk of the family car were accidental.
The bodies of the brother and sister — ages 5 and 4 — were found Monday about an hour after they slipped out of their mother's view in the northwest Arkansas town of Springdale. Temperatures on Monday climbed into the 90s.
Washington County Coroner Roger Morris said Tuesday he's waiting for an official ruling from the state medical examiner's office in Little Rock, but he's inclined to believe the deaths were accidental.
Authorities say they don't know how the children got into the trunk. Police say the siblings were probably playing, but Sgt. Shane Pegram said investigators haven't yet ruled out other possibilities.
