Rebecca Longley went to the hospital twice in one day and told them she was ready to deliver her baby, but she was sent home both times after doctors told her she “wasn’t ready.”
As her boyfriend drove them home the second time, the 20-year-old delivered her own baby, London’s Daily Mail reported.
Baby Aaliyah was born healthy at 6 pounds, 1 ounce, but Longley, is questioning the admissions procedures at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, Hants, England.
“I really had no idea what to expect because it was my first child,” Longley said. “I had a real mix of emotions. When it first started, I was so scared and worried, but that turned to relief and happiness when she was born and we realized she was OK.”
Longley said she shudders to think what could have happened if there were complications during the birth.
A spokesman for Royal Hampshire confirmed that the hospital sent Longley home twice because her labor was progressing slowly.
