3 Pipe Bombs Found in New Jersey Town

Three pipe bombs were found in a northern New Jersey town on Sunday, spurring numerous evacuations and road closures but causing no injuries.

Passaic County Sheriff Jerry Speziale said the bombs were in a black plastic bag when they were discovered in a wooded area of Wayne around 3:30 p.m.

Authorities went there after being called by someone who had heard about the bombs. That person is not considered a suspect, Speziale said, but was being questioned Sunday.

Speziale described the explosives as "basic pipe bombs" with caps on each end and ignition fuses. The devices were about one inch in diameter, and the largest was about 15 inches long.

Speziale said a can of gunpowder was also found nearby.

Bomb squad members were detonating the explosives at the site.
