State media say an estimated 59 people have been buried by a landslide in an iron mining region of southwestern China.
The Xinhua News Agency gave no more details in an initial report about the disaster Friday in Chongqing, an area of steep hills rich in iron ore, natural gas and other mineral resources.
Similar accidents have been reported around China, often caused by illegal or unsafe mining operations where badly stored tailings crash down on local communities.
