Few things divide this nation more than the vexing swimwear question: stripes or polka dots?

Purveyors of polka-dots invariably point to the fact that an entire song was written about their spotted pattern, and often proceed to sing the 1960 novelty hit's signature verse:

It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini that she wore for the first time today...

While stripers (that's what they want to be called) prefer to mention that three-quarters of the American flag is covered with their signature style, even going so far as to insinuate that to be pro-polka dot means you are anti-stripe, and thus unpatriotic, and perhaps a communist.

Radar Online has even jumped into the fray, stoking the fires by posting a photo gallery of Hollywood starlets wearing both stripes and polka dots, and asking the American public to pick which pattern is indeed the hottest.

Friends, patriots, countrymen... can't we all just get along?
