BEIRUT – Lebanon has charged nine people with collaborating with Israel, raising the number of suspects arraigned in the past few weeks to 35.
The state-run National News Agency says military prosecutor Saqr Saqr charged the nine on Tuesday with aiding Israeli forces and providing the Jewish state with information about civilian and military positions and political figures in Lebanon.
Lebanon considers itself at war with Israel, and spying for or collaborating with the Jewish state can be punishable by death.
Security officials also said an Egyptian man and a Lebanese citizen have been arrested on suspicion of spying for Israel.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
