Most people dread going to the dentist, but in Anna Campbell’s case, it saved it her life.
The 15-year-old was supposed to have four teeth removed, but she never got that far – a routine test showed her blood pressure was sky high, London’s Daily Telegraph reported. Instead, Anna went straight to the hospital where more tests showed her aorta was shockingly narrow.
Doctors told Anna, of Littleover, Derbyshire in England, her aorta should have been around 14 millimeters; instead it measured at two millimeters. A heart attack or blood clot had been imminent for years.
Anna immediately had corrective surgery and has made a full recovery.
“If it weren’t for my teeth, I wouldn’t be here today,” said Anna, who added she never had any indication there was a problem with her heart.
Doctors told Anna’s family it is a miracle she has lived this long with such a narrow aorta and no complications.
