California Police Officer Kills Man During Traffic Stop

Authorities say a police officer has shot and killed a man during a traffic stop in Orange County.

Garden Grove police Lt. Travis Whitman says in a news release that the officer pulled over a vehicle shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday and fatally shot a male passenger in his 30s about 15 minutes later. The man died at the scene.

Police would not immediately say why the car was pulled over or what spurred the shooting.

The officer's name was not released.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office is investigating as required in shootings involving officers.
