A man who reportedly was threatening to explode a bomb was shot and killed by King County sheriff's deputies in Covington, southeast of Seattle.
Sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart says the 53-year-old man was shot Saturday afternoon when he emerged from his home and pointed a rifle at a sheriff's helicopter. Deputies had been called to the home at the request of the dead man's estranged wife, who wanted to retrieve items from the home.
Urquhart says deputies couldn't immediately approach the house after the shooting because of the threat of a bomb inside. He says that when they did approach, they found the man dead, with a rifle, a sidearm and ammunition nearby.
No bomb was found. The dead man's name was not immediately available.
The shooting site is in a neighborhood near Kentwood High School.
