Tow Truck Driver Charged With Letting Son, 8, Steer Car

Authorities say a Panhandle tow truck driver allowed his 8-year-old son to steer a car that he was towing.

Bay County Sheriff's Office reports that a deputy, responding to a complaint Wednesday night, spotted a station wagon swerving back and forth as it was being pulled by a truck. The deputy pulled over both vehicles.

According to a report, 49-year-old John Clifford Myers told the deputy he thought the boy would be capable of operating the vehicle.

Myers was arrested and charged with child neglect and allowing an unauthorized minor to operate a motor vehicle. He was later released from jail.

A family member was called to pick up the boy at the scene.
