ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Jockey Jamie Theriot was suspended for allegedly causing a violent collision at Arlington Park in Illinois that left fellow jockey Rene Douglas paralyzed from the waist down and Douglas' horse euthanized.
Theriot, 30, was riding Sky Mom in the Grade III Arlington Matron on Saturday when his horse bumped Douglas', Born to Be. That horse then clipped heels with another running in front of them, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Born to Be was knocked unconscious and flipped over, sending Douglas flying head-first into the track before the horse landed on top of him, the Tribune reported.
Douglas was dragged from beneath the animal and rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he remains in intensive care, while Born to Be was later euthanized, according the paper.
Theriot was demoted from fifth place to last and given a 30-day suspension set to begin May 30.
