An off-duty Chicago police officer faces reckless homicide, DUI and hit-and-run charges after allegedly striking and killing a boy riding his bicycle.
The police department said Saturday the unidentified 39-year-old officer has been relieved of police powers and is under internal investigation.
The department says his name and mugshot can't be released, per union contract.
He's charged with driving the wrong way on a one-way street, transportation of alcohol, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, reckless homicide and aggravated DUI.
He's accused of striking and killing 13-year-old Trenton Booker around 1:30 a.m. Friday. The boy's family says he snuck out with friends after going to bed.
His family says they didn't realize he wasn't home until police told them he was dead.
