A British council has enraged local artists after asking them to contribute artwork to hang on the walls of a local hospital, welcoming paintings of any subject — except churches.
Havering Council in East London said in an unsolicited letter, "The hospital has asked artists not to submit paintings of churches as they have to be mindful of all religious denominations," according to the Daily Mail.
Many artists, however, wondered why buildings of other religions were permitted at Queen's Hospital, the Daily Mail reported.
A Havering Council spokesman told the Daily Mail that the council was simply passing on the information and terms established by the hospital.
A spokesman for the hospital trust told the Mail its head of nursing knew nothing about the letter's content and therefore had no comment.
