Police have charged a suspect with the murder of a Georgia woman who was killed 16 years ago and buried in a shallow grave near her home.

James Edward Calhoun, 46, was arrested and charged with the murder of Janey Day, whose body was found in a makeshift grave in October 1993.

Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering says Calhoun became a suspect early in the investigation but until recently detectives didn't have enough evidence to charge him.

But detectives say new information and evidence led to Calhoun's arrest. They refused to reveal the evidence.

Calhoun is being held without bail at the Duval County Jail in Jacksonville, Fla. and he is expected to be transferred to Georgia next week.
