Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are expecting twin girls via a surrogate, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Both Parker and Broderick's reps confirmed the news.

A friend of the couple told Entertainment Weekly that they have been trying to expand their family since the birth of their 6-year-old son James, but had been unsuccessful.

"They came to the conclusion that this was going to be the best alternative for expanding their family," the friend told Entertainment Weekly.

Parker, the star of the hit HBO series and movie "Sex and the City" is filming "Did You Hear About the Morgans?" a romantic comedy costarring Hugh Grant.

Broderick's latest film "Wonderful World" premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival on April 27, and he's currently starring on Broadway in "The Philanthropist."
