Authorities say a house fire in southwestern Michigan has resulted in deaths and critical injuries.

The number of people killed and injured in Saturday morning's fire in Kalamazoo County's Texas Township wasn't immediately released.

The sheriff's office says in a statement that firefighters from Texas and Oshtemo townships responded to a report of a fire about 7:45 a.m., and found multiple people inside.

It says rescue efforts were made.

The statement says "occupants of the residence were pronounced as deceased" with others in critical condition. Texas Township is located about 50 miles south of Grand Rapids and 135 miles west of Detroit.

The sheriff's department says the fire and deaths were under investigation.
