NEW YORK – A computer glitch at the Off-Track Betting Corp. left about 300 people at New York City betting parlors with defective tickets.
OTB President Raymond Casey says the malfunction on Wednesday caused the decimal point to move two spaces in either direction.
So a $39 win, for example, was cut to 39 cents. A $520 hit increased to $52,000.
Kevin Sanford of Queens bet $60 and won $201. Sanford says his heart began racing when he read his mistaken payout — $20,100.
A betting parlor clerk caught the mistake.
The problem halted betting for four hours.
