Small Plane Crashes in California Killing 2

A federal aviation official says a small plane has crashed in the San Jose area, killing both people on board.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said Sunday the single-engine Champion Citabria crashed Saturday for unknown reasons at the 400-foot level of Mt. Hamilton.

The names of the dead were not released.

Gregor says the plane left Watsonville around 9:30 Saturday morning and was headed to a private airstrip in Alta Mesa. It was reported missing that afternoon after it failed to arrive.

Gregor says the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
