Alabama is pulling out all the stops this weekend as it gets ready to host Ford Mustang's 45th birthday party, according to Ford.com.
Thousands of muscle car enthusiasts from around the world are expected to come together in Birmingham, Ala., to celebrate all things Mustang with vintage displays, street parties and auto racing in honor of the American icon, Ford reported.
In addition to being declared "Mustang Day," Ford kicks off the celebration Friday with the arrival of a cross-country Mustang convoy consisting of hundreds of enthusiastic owners.
Attendance is expected to reach upwards of 2,500 people from more than 15 countries, all with their beloved cars in tow.
One diehard Mustang fan, Laki Malamatenios from Grass Valley, California, drove his Poppy Red 1964½ Mustang coupe across the country to take part in the festivities.
“My ‘Poppy’ is something special,” he said. “This car is a chronicle of my life with my family — some happy memories, some sad, but always interesting. Whenever I drive it, my whole life flashes before my eyes.”
