A quick trip around Hannity's America...
Selective Memory
President Obama’s nominee for secretary of Health and Human Services may have had a smooth ride at her confirmation hearing, but now, Governor Kathleen Sebelius' nomination may be in serious jeopardy after she gave incorrect information in her written testimony.
Documents released by the Senate Finance Committee show that Senator Jon Kyl asked Governor Sebelius to detail contributions she received from the wildly controversial Kansas Doctor George Tiller, who is known for specializing in late term abortions.
In her response Governor Sebelius said, "I have received $12,450 over an eight-year period… since that time I have received no donations from Dr. Tiller or any PAC related to him."
An investigation by the AP reports her answer is flat out not true and that Tiller has donated at least $23,000 to Governor Sebelius since 2001. The Obama administration calls the mistake an oversight and says they plan on correcting the record.
You know, I think it speaks to the character of somebody who says they are "personally opposed to abortion" and yet they accept money from somebody like George Tiller. Absolutely disgraceful.
Sen. Franken (D-SNL)
Monday evening, a three judge panel in Minnesota declared Democrat Al Franken the victor over Norm Coleman in that state's bitterly contested Senate race. After the ruling was handed down, Mr. Franken — the first Democrat to represent the "Saturday Night Live" contingent — shared a few words with reporters.
Let's just say you can expect to see Minnesota's new senator get the Liberal Translation treatment quite a bit over the next few years:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
AL FRANKEN, NEWLY ELECTED MINNESOTA SENATOR: The campaign for this Senate seat has been long and expensive.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: And I'm going to give Minnesotans a few more reasons to regret it.
FRANKEN: But the fight ahead, the fight to rebuild our economy and repair our broken health care system and restore our standing in the world, that's a fight we must win.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: And I, Stuart Smalley, am the man to restore our standing in the world.
FRANKEN: It's a fight we must win by setting aside partisan gamesmanship and by working together.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, I irritate people!
FRANKEN: My role in that fight will be to work every day in the U.S. Senate with senators from both parties to serve the state I love because restoring America's promise is going to be a tough job.
LIBERAL TRANSLATION: The people have spoken, and now the people must be punished!
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Minnesota, I extend my deepest sympathies.
Big Brother
If you disagree with the liberal path that president Obama is taking the country down, you may soon catch the attention of the Department of Homeland Security.
The DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis has issued an intel assessment that warns of a rise in what they call "right-wing extremism". But critics of the report say their definition of a "right-wing extremist" sounds awfully close to somebody who might simply disagree with the Obama administration.
The report lists the following issues as possible recruiting tools for right-wing groups: the economic downturn, illegal immigration, legislative and judicial drivers, perceived threats from other countries and disgruntled military veterans.
Regarding those threats from other countries, DHS says right-wing groups "bemoan the decline of U.S. stature," and on illegal immigration, DHS points out that there is a "frustration over a perceived lack of government action on illegal immigration."
Well, I wonder what DHS is going to call the thousands of great Americans who take to the streets to have their voices heard at Tax Day tea parties across the country? And I wonder if they have a report on left-wing fanatics like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright?
Dirty Word
Our Great Moment in Liberal Foreign Policy is brought to you by Barack Obama and Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah.
Pakistan's Daily Times reports that the Saudi Kingdom has banned license plates it considers lewd. Several Saudis chose combinations of Arabic characters which, when translated, spell offensive three letter words. First among the banned words, for inexplicable reasons, is "USA." A whopping 90,000 plates with the various banned letter combinations are currently being replaced.
I guess president Obama's gracious bow to the Saudi King a couple weeks ago didn't engender too much goodwill in that nation. And all along I thought bowing down to dictators would make them treat us with respect!
