An 18-year-old is behind bars for what police say was a retaliation killing that ended in the death of an 8-year-old girl.
Paris Whitehead-Hamilton was sleeping inside her house early Sunday morning when she was caught in a hail of bullets. She later died at the hospital.
St. Petersburg Police say Stephan Harper, and possibly others, fired multiple shots from a semiautomatic rifle outside the home because of an ongoing disagreement with one of the adults inside. Police say the little girl's death was an act of retaliation. It is unclear what the fight was about.
Harper has been charged with first degree murder.
Detectives also seized three assault rifles and two shotguns from an apartment.
