Authorities say an accident involving a bus this morning on Interstate 80 west of Reno has killed one person and injured 27 others, five critically.

The California Highway Patrol says it has no immediate details of the 8:30 a.m. accident that occurred near Floriston, Calif., about 20 miles west of Reno.

But a CHP dispatcher in Truckee, Calif., confirmed there was one fatality.

Kevin Romero is a spokesman for REMSA, the Reno area's ambulance service.

He says 27 people were taken to hospitals in Reno and Truckee, and five of them were critically injured.

The westbound lanes where the accident occurred are expected to be closed for three more hours, while the eastbound lanes have reopened.

A Hazmat crew was sent to the scene to deal with a fuel spill.
