A dream trip to a Los Angeles dance show for 14 British teen girls was ruined Thursday when the trip organizer vanished — and so did $44,000 of their cash.
The youngsters and eight parents arrived at Heathrow airport in London, eager to represent England in the international Dance Excellence competition.
But the girls, aged 14 to 16, were devastated to find that no flights had been booked for them— and no hotels were reserved in California.
Dance school boss Bobbi Newman then discovered that her mother Amanda Williams had disappeared from her home on Wednesday morning.
She alerted cops, and on Thursday night they were hunting Williams, 51, who organized the 10-day trip.
Members of Bobbi’s Academy of Dance, of Swindon, Wilts, had worked hard to raise the cash for the trip — by packing bags at supermarkets, and staging a fashion show, bingo night, curry night and dance shows.
Furious dad Victor Bastar — whose daughter Laura, 16, was among those left devastated — said: “The girls worked so hard to raise the money for the trip, and it was for nothing. Bobbi was in floods of tears.”
Another dad, who asked not to be named, said: “Everyone is gutted.
“It was the trip of a lifetime. Now they have nothing.”
