GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: Check this out. We caught up with Oscar winner Sally Field in an event for Vital Voices, a nonprofit organization that trains and empowers women around the world.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

VAN SUSTEREN: First of all, thank you for doing this, and welcome to Washington.

SALLY FIELD, ACTRESS: Thank you. Nice to be here. And thank you for doing this.

VAN SUSTEREN: Vital Voices, what is it?

FIELD: Well, it's a group that I have been a part of now for a number of years. It's a really hands-on group that goes into 127 countries now and identifies emerging women leaders', entrepreneurs, or governmental leaders, or, really women who are fighting for human rights issues, many times threatening their own lives to do so.

And the stories of these women, how they go in and find them. They bring them back here to Washington to train them. They send them to George Washington University.

And they have mentors and pro bono leaders who actually help these women go back into their own countries, which is what they do, and empower the women in their communities.

VAN SUSTEREN: It is sort of interesting, looking at the group of American women who are part of this, it is star-studded. You are on the list. We have Mrs. Bush 43's former chief of staff. We've got a lady who has been on our show and who was a Democrat and very active in politics.

These are unbelievably powerful American women who are participating in this.

FIELD: A number of years ago, I think it was 12 years ago--14 years ago was the Beijing Women's Conference when then-first lady Hillary Clinton went to the Beijing Women's Conference and was very moved, as we all were. I went to the Beijing Women's Conference with her. I was actually with Save the Children at the time.

And it was so impactful. You did not walk away from it the same. And they began this group along with --

VAN SUSTEREN: Mrs. Clinton.

FIELD: Who was her chief of staff, an amazing women. They began this group. And Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has been a part of it for a number of years. And it is a really hands on group that goes in and finds those women who are already trying to emerge, empowers them, puts them back in their communities, and they change their communities.

VAN SUSTEREN: It's enriching talking to these women. We have had a chance to talk to a woman from Afghanistan. There was a woman her from Cambodia.

FIELD: Cambodia.

VAN SUSTEREN: When you see-

FIELD: Women from the Congo. Amazing stories.

VAN SUSTEREN: They have just extraordinary stories. But I think that while the American women help enrich their lives, it is also very enriching for the American women to see what goes on in other parts of the world.

FIELD: There is no question. There is no question.

What we have seen, all of us, over the last 10 years, eight years is that the world is getting smaller. And we are getting more connected, but the world's getting bigger. We are getting more and more people. There is more and more strive. But we are totally connected.

And when people are hungry and hurting, and there is injustice, savage injustice going on, it really hurts us. We have to be able to step up and fight this and help empower the people who can go back.

And it is so hands on. You can identify those people. There are their names. This is this woman who actually does this and this and this, and goes back and changes lives.

VAN SUSTEREN: Secretary Clinton is going to be on here tonight.

FIELD: Yes, she is, and we're really thrilled about that.

VAN SUSTEREN: Have you met her before?

FIELD: Yes, many times. I am a huge admirer and supporter. And she has moved on to bigger and better things. But it is so great to watch her journey. As I said, 14 years ago was the Beijing Women's Conference. And now, in this miraculous job she has today, she is taking that information. She is fighting for women in a way we have not seen quite the same way.

VAN SUSTEREN: Sally, thank you very much, and it's very nice, and, as I said, welcome to Washington.

FIELD: Thank you. I love it here.

VAN SUSTEREN: Thank you.
