An airline passenger gave birth Thursday in a plane bathroom during a flight from Samoa to Auckland, New Zealand, and left the baby in a garbage bin when she disembarked, AFP reported.
Officials and Pacific Blue Airlines launched an investigation as the mother and child were reportedly recovering in the hospital.
An airline worker found the Samoan mother's infant in the toilet's garbage can more than an hour after the plane landed. The 150 passengers and crew on board were allegedly not aware that the 30-year-old had given birth mid-flight.
However, customs officials noticed something askew when the woman approached them pale and blood-stained, AFP reported.
"We are relieved to have been informed that both mother and child are reunited, are well and are now being looked after in hospital," Pacific Blue said in a statement.
