A 10-year-old girl who had always been fed by a tube delighted her family when she recently decided to eat solid foods for the first time in her life.
Doctors had been baffled by Tia-Mae McCarthy’s refusal to eat real food. Although she was born with a gap between her esophagus and stomach, doctors did not believe there was a medical reason for Tia-Mae's rejection of solid foods.
Recently, Tia-Mae, who lives in Alderholt, Dorset in England, was offered yogurt and she surprised everyone by saying she would try it.
Tia’s new diet is still limited and she receives most of her nutrients via the feeding tube, but her mother is excited, nonetheless.
“I never thought it would happen,” said her mother, Sue.
