CLIFTON, N.J. – Authorities in Clifton are searching for an armed woman who kidnapped a female motorist and demanded to be driven to a liquor store.
Police say the 54-year-old victim was walking to her car after work on Monday when she encountered her assailant, who appeared to be intoxicated.
The suspect ordered the driver to take her to a second liquor store after discovering that her initial destination in nearby Paterson was closed.
Clifton Police Capt. Robert Rowan says the victim escaped after the suspect entered the second store.
Rowan said investigators are speaking with the liquor store owners and believe the assailant, who appeared to be in her 20s, may be one of their regular customers.
