Schools in southwestern Minnesota are reporting a large number of students absent because of illnesses.
Redwood Valley in Redwood Falls had over 100 students absent on Monday.
Jackie Lovald with Redwood County Public Health says clinic staffers are not seeing a lot of any one illness. She says there have been reports of viral sore throats, vomiting, coughs, strep and influenza.
Lovald says students are encouraged to take time to get well before returning to school and possibly exposing others to their germs. She says as a rule, you should wait 24 hours from the time symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea or fever are gone before returning to school or work.
February is considered a peak month for influenza.
