A New Hampshire man traveling in a horse-drawn camper to explore the country was critically injured after he was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on Tuesday, according to reports. Two of his four horses were also killed in the crash.
Bob Skelding, 49, set out from Deerfield, N.H., in July with his homemade camper. He was driving his team of horses on a highway that had little or no shoulder when he was hit from behind by the tractor-trailer, the Commercial Dispatch of Columbus, Miss., reported.
"I don’t know where I’m going or where I’ll end up, but I think I’m really going to enjoy the people and the places along the way," Skelding said of his cross-country journey in a statement on his Web site.
Skelding was hospitalized after surgery. The two surviving horses were being cared for by a veterinarian.
Skelding built the makeshift camper, which was destroyed in the crash. It featured a bed, a bathroom, a shower and a kitchen, the Dispatch reported.
