The Coast Guard is searching for a plane with three people aboard that vanished during rainy weather on a trip from Catalina.
There was no word of the plane or its occupants early Friday.
A Coast Guard official in San Pedro says the single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza took off from Santa Catalina Island shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday on an hourlong trip to John Wayne Airport in Orange County.
It never got there, and the Coast Guard sent up a helicopter overnight to search for it.
There was heavy rain in the area at the time but the Coast Guard says the pilot didn't make any distress call, and it's unclear if weather had any role in the plane's disappearance.
