A quick trip around Hannity's America...

Change: Coming Soon

"Soon"! That's when the Obama administration says it will start following its ethical standards.

President Obama complained during the campaign that bills are rushed through Congress before the public has a chance to review them. He said his administration would bring change by posting legislation on the White House Web site for five days before signing it into law. You'll be shocked to hear the president has yet to make good on that promise.

Politi-fact.com asked the folks at the White House about this inconsistency. White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said, "We will be implementing this policy in full very soon. Currently we are working through implementation procedures and some initial issues with the congressional calendar."

In the meantime, I guess change is on hold.

Bueller? Bueller?

Wednesday the protectionists in the Senate had their day as they voted to keep a "Buy American" provision in their spending bill.

This is the provision that will require all spending projects to use only American-made goods. Many argue that the move could trigger a trade war with our allies.

Senator McCain — one of the most vocal opponents of the provision — warned that the requirement has "echoes of the disastrous Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act."

Does anyone remember the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act? Anyone?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BEN STEIN, ACTOR: In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives in an effort to alleviate the effect of the... anyone? Anyone? The Great Depression. Passed the... anyone? Anyone? A tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act which... anyone? Raised or lowered? Raised tariffs in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government.

Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression.

President Obama would do well to listen more closely to Ben Stein, especially when it comes to climbing out of economic recession.

Bipartisan Banter

Another day in the Obama administration, another Democrat demagoguing the so-called stimulus bill. Thursday's outstanding example is Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, who took the ridiculous rhetoric to new heights:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SEN. DICK DURBIN, D-ILL.: The American people expect us to look forward. They expect us to work together.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Like how I worked together with the Bush administration when I compared Gitmo to a Soviet gulag!

DURBIN: They want to find solutions. They don't want squabbles and that's what we need to do today on the floor of the Senate. We will meet in order for this reinvestment program and recovery program to go forward, for at least a handful of Republican senators to step up and say, "All right. I'll be part of change."

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Who wouldn't want to be a part of change?! You don't even have to pay your taxes!

DURBIN: I will join President Obama and the Democrats to make a difference in this economy.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: "Make a difference" — if dog parks and disc golf courses aren't going to bring us out of this slump, I don't know what will.

DURBIN: If this ends, sadly, with the same results in the House of Representatives with no cooperation, no involvement by the Republican side, then this economic crisis, sadly, will continue.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Demonizing the opposition, scaring the people, shaking my head in dismay — man, I've got this "politics of fear" thing nailed!

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Yes, if only we could all show the bipartisanship of Dick Durbin... what a nation it would be.

HanoiJane.com

You may remember her singing anti-war tunes with North Vietnamese communists or maybe you did step-aerobics with Jane Fonda in your living room. Well, now there's another way to enjoy "Hanoi Jane."

The Big Hollywood blog observes that the actress-turned-fitness guru has recently blessed the world with a Web log, on which she is keeping a diary of her daily activities, such as walking her dog, napping and doing Pilates.

Miss Fonda cited Rosie O'Donnell as her inspiration for starting the blog, so I can only imagine how much we have to look forward to as she continues to develop the site.
