CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A track and field athlete at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has died during a basketball game.
The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday that sophomore Steven Archer suffered cardiac arrest Monday night. Details weren't available.
The university said Archer competed in the long jump and his top distance of 7.01 meters placed him ninth on the school's top-10 list.
Charlotte track and field coach Bob Olesen said in a statement that Archer loved the sport and worked hard at it.
Memorials and funeral arrangements weren't complete.
