School's 'Be Healthy' Week Includes Pole Dancing Performances

As part of a British school’s “Be Healthy Week,” students were treated to performances by a pole dancer.

About 1,000 students between the ages of 14 and 19 from South Devon College in Paignton, England, watched as instructor Sam Remmer, 32, of pole dancing company The Art of Dance performed on campus, according to The Sun.

When Remmer returned two days later, she was told there had been some complaints from teachers who had seen her public performance, so she moved her lessons to the gym.

“I was told pupils were distracted from their afternoon lessons because they were swapping pictures and videos,” Remmer said.

Some of the videos made it to YouTube, which caused some controversy.

Remmer told The Sun that unless the public is educated about pole dancing “negative stereotypes will not go away,” and she does believe it to be a fun fitness activity that can boost self-confidence.
