Two California residents were arrested after they allegedly stole tires and rims off a car and then returned to the scene to see if the crime was reported to police, CBS13.com in Sacramento reported.

Police said John T. West. 20, and Ashley Sorensen of Auburn allegedly stole tow tires and rims off a Toyota parked in the driveway of Ophir, Calif. home, put them on their own Geo, and drove away, according to the Web site.

The victim and a deputy from the Placer County Sheriff's Department were standing in her driveway when the pair drove past the house, and the deputy noticed the car.

West and Sorensen told police the drove back to the scene to "see if the lady had called the cops," CBS13.com reported.

Both were charged with grand theft and conspiracy.
