SANTA ANA, Calif. – A third defendant in the killings of a couple tied to a yacht anchor and thrown into the sea has been described as an eager participant in the plot to steal the 55-foot vessel.
The prosecutor in John F. Kennedy's murder trial portrayed him in opening statements Monday as a gang member who jumped at the chance to participate in the 2004 murders-at-sea of Tom and Jackie Hawks.
The defense described the 43-year-old Long Beach man as a church leader and claimed Kennedy can't be tied to the crime by the evidence.
Skylar Deleon was convicted in November of directing the murders in a plot to steal the yacht 'Well Deserved'. Deleon's ex-wife Jennifer Henderson was convicted in 2006 of two counts of murder.
