Suspects in California Lesbian Rape Case Plead Not Guilty

Three suspects in the alleged gang rape of a lesbian woman in Richmond have pleaded not guilty and are likely to remain jailed until a judge decides whether there is enough evidence to put them on trial.

Lawyers for 31-year-old Humberto Hernandez Salvador, 21-year-old Josue Gonzalez and 16-year-old Darrell Hodges entered the pleas Thursday to charges of kidnapping, carjacking, gang rape and sodomy in the Dec. 13 attack.

Salvador also was charged with committing a hate crime, and his lawyer said he was also pleading not guilty to that.

Authorities say the woman was taunted for being a lesbian during the 45-minute assault.

A prosecutor says that with bails ranging from $1.9 million and $2.2 million, the suspects are unlikely to get out of jail before their March court date.
