LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – Authorities say two middle school students are being treated at a hospital in Lee County after the school bus they were riding in was hit by a dump truck.
Lee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Robert Forrest says the students and the drivers of both vehicles were taken to area hospitals with unspecified injuries. But he did not believe the injuries were life-threatening.
Several other students being transported to Varsity Lakes Middle School in Lehigh Acres Tuesday morning were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Lehigh Acres is about 15 miles east of Fort Myers.
Forrest said the dump truck ran the red light and hit the driver's side of the bus when it reached an intersection.
No charges have been filed.
