ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The owners of two Latino grocery stores in St. Joseph will not face charges after selling unapproved, foreign-made drugs because they weren't aware the drugs were illegal, St. Joseph-Buchanan County health officials said.
More than a dozen foreign prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including antibiotics and pain relievers, were seized by local and state health inspectors in October.
The medications were mostly manufactured in Mexico and the owners of the two stores said they bought them from distributors in the U.S.
They were not supposed to be sold in this country because they are banned by the Food and Drug Administration or did not have a label printed in English.
